The Scammell Ballasted Tractor is the specialised towing version of the Scammell Commander Tank Transporter Tractor fitted with a steel ballast body instead of the usual '5th wheel'. This body contains 80x 250kg Iron blocks (40 Tonnes in all)to give traction to the rear wheels. The Ballasted tractor is used as a heavy recovery tractor or for towing the 50 Ton Drawbar Trailer (see below).

In the past these ballast bodies were stored until needed, but are now regularly used, particularly in SFOR to pull heavy vehicles up difficult slopes in the former Yugoslavia.

This 1/35th scale model kit by Tim Babb and Brian Fawcett consists of a standard K060T kit with the addition of a ballast body, 80x weights and a thin Vacuum formed canvas cover, a further etched brass set includes cover tie-downs and a warning plate. A printed warning sign for use in NATO is also included.
