The Thornycroft Mighty Antar was originally developed in 1949 as a super-heavy civilian 6x4 tractor for hauling steel pipeline sections across the Iraqi desert. It was named in honour of the Arabian Poet-warrior Antar Ibn Shadded (famed for his strength and endurance).

At the time ANTAR was the largest tractor ever made in the UK and was further developed as a tank transporter for the British Army, and over a period of 35 years from the early 1950's to mid 1980's, Mighty ANTAR performed all the British Army heavy haulage tasks. Whether the load was a; Centurion, Conqueror, Chieftain or a host of lesser tonnage AFV's, ANTAR lugged them around from A to B.

ANTAR was ultimately replaced by the equally impressive Scammell Commander.

This extensive 1:35th scale resin model kit by David Jane, depicts the FV12002 Mk-2 (5th wheel) version for towing semi-trailers. It is one of a planned series of 5x ANTAR tractor models. The kit comes with an etched brass detailing set, extensive full colour decals and full chassis, cab interior, engine, transmission and winch details. We have matching semi-trailer kits (shown below).
