The FV438 was the first British tracked vehicle to mount the Swingfire missile Anti-Tank Guided Weapon (ATGW). FV438 is modification of the FV432 APC with a fixed turret mounting two missile launchers, and an extending and rotating guidance sight. Missiles are fired and re-loaded in turn from within the vehicle, making this the only vehicle capable of delivering a sustained missile barrage under fire. The tubular structure on top is to guide the missile wires over the vehicle. The FV438 was eventually replaced by the CVR(T) STRIKER (our kit K049) which is still in service.
This 1/35th scale resin and etched brass model by Jon Bottomley features raised and lowered sights and missile bins, external stowage and was upgraded in 2004 to include decals. This model does not include internal detail. |
